The Top Old School Punk Albums

Dropkick Murphys

The Dropkick Murphys hold a very special place in my heart as my favorite band of all time.  The Irish rock band's lyrics and melodies can get you fired up when you need some motivation.  The Celtic instrumentation and punk roots give these guys a sound that is very unique to them specifically.  Warrior's Code is from start to finish an album that you need to have in your collection!

Rancid

The punk rock legends, Rancid, have a lot of influence of the ska punk style.  The vocal melodies in their songs are not only catchy, but will get stuck in your head for days!  Rancid created a new form of punk music that has heavily influenced punk bands today.

Pennywise

Listening to Pennywise is sure to make you want to rebel against some sort of establishment.  The song "Bro Hymn" is one that I have been dying to see live.  These guys are sure to make you want to stir a riot!

Bad Religion

The punk fathers Bad Religion have paved a way for many bands that came after them.  These guys truly revolutionized punk music and reflected culture throughout their music.  It is difficult to pick any one album that you must have from Bad Religion, so it is best to start at the beginning!

Green Day

The album Dookie is undoubtedly Green Day's most popular PUNK album.  This album by Green Day is the catchiest, most fun album of theirs in my opinion.  There are many hits off of Dookie, but "Longview" has always been my favorite.

The Offspring

When thinking of cool, fun music, The Offspring is the first band that comes to my mind.  Conversely, these guys do have a few songs that are more serious.  Regardless of this, The Offspring will create an ear worm that you won't be able to get rid of for days.

Social Distortion

The catchy melodies that Social Distortion brought to punk music will leave you singing along with their tunes and will most definitely have the song stuck in your head for the rest of the day.  I have found myself with these ear worms from these guys several times when trying to sleep at night.

Black Flag

Black Flag are the grandfathers of the hardcore punk that we hear today, and they also influenced many other heavy genres too.  A list of top old school punk albums would not be complete without showing respect to what these guys did for the punk genre.

Dead Kennedys

While we are discussing the punk bands that paved the way for the hardcore punk bands of today, Dead Kennedys are at the top of the list right next to Black Flag.  Both of these bands and the remaining bands on this list paved the way for the ones who followed.

The Sex Pistols

In the truest form of crazy, The Sex Pistols were part of the complete chaos that punk music created.  When discussing the "OG's", these guys take one of the top slots.

The Ramones

Much deserved, The Ramones are the grandfathers of punk music, and so much of their music has been heard all around us.  The nostalgia of a Ramones record spinning on the player is a must-have experience.
